MAJESTIC RHINE GATEWAY

MAJESTIC RHINE GATEWAY

Where Rhine and Moselle join, lies a city that pays tribute to both famous rivers: Koblenz – the gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage “Oberes Mittelrheintal” (Upper Middle Rhine Valley). In more than 2000 years of history Koblenz saw many armies come and go but the city kept the best of all conquests.

Today you can still visit the “Kurfürstliches Schloss” (Elector’s Palace) as well as the romantic Schloss Stolzenfels (Stolzenfels Castle) and the neo-classical Theater.

The Prussians left behind the unique “Festung Ehrenbreitstein” (Ehrenbreitstein Fortress) that made the city to the greatest bastion on the old continent.
The huge construction high above Koblenz is well maintained. The fortress fascinates military historians from all over the world and is a site that you should not miss out on. From above you have an impressive panorama view over Koblenz and its baroque Old Town, over the Rhine, the Moselle and the monument of Emperor William I. on the “Deutsches Eck” (German Corner).

On top of that, the fortress is home to the “Landesmuseum Koblenz” (State Museum Koblenz). The former small settlement at the intersection of old military roads and great European streams emerged as a modern, vibrant city. In 2011, Koblenz hosted the “Bundesgartenschau” (Federal Garden Show) true to the motto “Koblenz changes”. A new contrast between historic Prussian gardens and contemporary grounds had been created.

Koblenz is an adorable city that is definitely worth living in. It nicely mixes its historic heritage with the modern present. The characteristic mélange of the Rhineland’s cheerfulness, French lifestyle and Prussian virtue gives the city its distinctive flair that inspires visitors again and again.
