Empress Augusta Festival
The Augusta Gala is celebrated in honour of Empress Maria Luise Augusta Katharina, princess and queen of Prussia (1811 – 1890). As the wife of emperor Wilhelm I, she lived with her family from 1850 – 1858 in the Koblenz castle and “presented” the citizens of the town with the Rhine Gardens in the year 1865.
Together with its cooperative partners, the Koblenz tourism board celebrated the first “Augusta Gala” in 2006.
This takes place every year within the scope of the “World Heritage Day” by the UNESCO commission and the German club for world heritage, the “Welterbestätten Deutschland e.V.” Since 2005 the event has taken place on the first Sunday in June. The main focus of public interest is placed on the UNESCO world heritage sites.
